EXHIBITION FRAMES AND GESSOED PAINTING BOARDS

Sets of grey pre-made frames with two gessoed boards are available for purchase, to be collected on the festival weekend.  The frames meet the exhibition venue’s hanging requirements and are available in the following sizes:

  • External frame size 52 x 42 cm, comes with two gessoed boards 40 x 30 cm $55  
  • External frame size 52 x 32 cm, comes with two gessoed boards 40 x 20 cm $45
  • External frame size 42 x 32 cm, comes with two gessoed boards 30 x 20 cm $45

Please note:

One painting per artist will be accepted for exhibition, with a maximum external frame size of 52 x 42 cm.

WORKSHOP:  PLEIN AIR FOR BEGINNERS

Join internationally renowned plein air painter Leon Holmes as he instructs on the basics of plein air painting. This workshop is recommended for beginners who would like to paint en plein air, but don’t know where to start or what to use. Leon will also talk about how to overcome those initial nerves about painting in public.


This one day workshop will cover:

  • Basic drawing skills
  • How to choose a subject
  • Working tonally to understand lights and darks
  • Basic palette knife skills
  • Basic brush skills
  • How to work with, and manage, oil paints

Workshop Cost:

$150 full price

$125 discounted for artists registered to paint at Plein Air Down Under

Basic plein air equipment will be available for hire for this workshop and throughout the weekend.

About Leon Holmes

Leon Holmes is an award-winning Australian artist, lecturer and ambassador of plein air (outdoor) painting, specialising in the medium of oil. He gained experience in a wide range of artistic fields, including Printmaking, Graphic design, Art Direction, Illustration and Photography, before becoming a full- time artist and instructor in 2005, holding his first solo exhibition in 2003. Since 2014, Leon has been a proud ambassador for world leading art companies Michael Harding Oil Paints and Rosemary and Co. Brushes.

Having spent a number of years in Europe refining his skills and networking with other artists, Leon is highly respected and regularly invited to display his work and teach at high-profile international art events in the USA, Holland, the UK, Greece and Poland.
