PLEIN AIR DOWN UNDER 2022 FESTIVAL PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

There are many activities during September, highlighted by the festival weekend:

PRE-FESTIVAL

10 September: at 2.30 pm:  RFDS Spirit of the Landscape Exhibition opening Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery, inside Mandurah Performing Arts Centre

10 & 11 September 10am to 2pm:   – International World-Wide Paint Out, Mandjar Square Mandurah

This global event is in its 20th year, with the aim of having many plein air artists painting, all around the world, at the same time.

20th Great  W O R L D W I D E  Artist Paint Out

19 & 20 September:  Tiffanie Mang Gouache Masterclass, studio and en plein air 

Finding Freedom with Limitation. 

In this two-day Masterclass, Tiffanie will be sharing the power of creating thumbnail studies from a limited palette.

20 September: Explore Peel Paint Out #1. Ravenswood Hotel, on the banks of the
Murray River. Food and drinks available.

22 September: Andy Dolphin Workshop, plein air drawing
Join award-winning artist Andy Dolphin for this half-day workshop covering the basics
of sketching en plein air. Topics covered include simplifying the landscape, handling
perspective and finding successful compositions through tonal thumbnails.

21 & 22 September: Leon Holmes Oil Painting Masterclass, en plein air

The Fundamentals of Plein Air.

In this two-day Masterclass, Leon will be focusing on perspective and scale, lights and darks, tonal values, colour mixing and a myriad of oil painting tips and tricks.

22 & 23 September: Tiffanie Mang Gouache Masterclass, studio and en plein air

The Power of Harnessing Greys.  

In this two-day Masterclass, Tiffanie will show how to harness and transform any grey, to be able to see past the colour and understand the relationships between hues.

Evening: Artists Meet & Greet in the gardens of the Leon Holmes Gallery

FESTIVAL DAY ONE   |   Sat 24 Sept   |   Mandurah  

Western Foreshore, Leighton Place Mandurah

  • Artist registration and board stamping at the Information Marquee, from 8am
  • Plein air painting along the Western Foreshore and King Carnival
  • Children’s art activity, presented by Community Bank Halls Head
  • Youth Zone, presented by the City of Mandurah
  • Watercolour activity, come and try
  • Lotterywest Free Demo Zone 10am, 12pm and 2pm

From 4pm, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre

  • Artist’s get together, open to the public
  • Feature Artist Demonstration
  • Bar open, freshly cooked paella available
  • Chocolate Wheel prizes
  • Nocturne paint out around the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre
  • Artists submit one painting for exhibition and judging

FESTIVAL DAY TWO   |   SUN 25 Sept   |   Pinjarra

Pinjarra Town Centre, Edenvale Complex

  • Artist registration and board stamping at the Information Marquee, from 8am
  • Plein air painting around the Pinjarra Heritage Trail
  • Watercolour activity, with Linda Murray
  • Lotterywest Free Demo Zone 10am, 12pm and 2pm

From 4pm, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre

  • Artist’s get together, open to the public
  • Feature Artist Painting Demonstration
  • Bar open
  • Chocolate Wheel prizes
  • Nocturne paint out around the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre
  • Artists submit one Pinjarra painting for exhibition and judging

FESTIVAL DAY THREE   |   MON 26 Sept   |   Mandurah

Mandjar Square, Ormsby Terrace Mandurah

  • Quick Draw board stamping at the Information Marquee, from 8am – 9.30am
  • Two Hour Quick Draw Painting Competition, 10am to 12noon Register here
  • Wearable Art Mandurah models in the landscape
  • Quick Draw Judging, Exhibition and Sales, 12.15pm onwards
  • Main Awards and Exhibition, Presentations and Sales, 2.30pm
  • Conclusion of festival weekend activities, 4pm

POST FESTIVAL
